Downtuning on a fretless

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a fretless J bass and was wondering if I could bring out the mwah sound a little more by tuning everything down either half or a whole step. I wondered what anyone else thought of this or if it would not even make a difference. I thought maybe it would allow a little more vibration on the fretboard. Has anyone played around with different tunings on fretless?

Slightly lower action, soloing the bridge pickups, and possibly lighter strings should help with this.

I already solo the bridge pickup and play near the neck. I get a pretty good tone from that I was just wondering if it would add even more to tune down. I guess I'll just have to try it and see what happens.

+1, I've seen several fretless basses that had more mwah after the action was lowered.

Just lower your action but also eq to get the mwah to stand out more.
