| It's similar to slapping, except instead of bouncing off the strings, it goes THROUGH the string, and then you bring it back up, making another percussive sound. Basically popping with your thumb. There's an article on it in "Bass", a UK magazine from "Guitar Magazine", issue 09 with Tom Hamilton and Gene Simmons on the cover. Do a search next time.
