I've just finally started to learn songs for fun, and I'm wondering if anyone here has learned songs by either of these bands. I'm interested to learn some of their songs, but I'm hoping someone with experience can tell me which of their songs they found easy to learn.
Right now, I'm in the process of learning "Evil" by Interpol, and the bass itself isn't too hard, but I could be better with the timing. I'm playing it at 60 BPM right now. I hope this can give an idea of my level, which I'm pretty sure is total noob.
Thanks in advance for any help. EDIT: Wrong forum, if someone could move this, I'd appreciate it.

1. A Favor House Atlantic
2. Welcome Home
3. In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth
4. Feathers
5. (still working on...) The Running Free
6. (still trying to decypher...) No World for Tomorrow
Although "EASY" is relative....

I'm a little surprised this isn't a hotter topic. Micheal Todd is an awesome bassist... |

I about died when MT left the band for a while, glad he's back!! What a monster bassist!! Another band with a great bassist.... Lakland skyline player.... is Finger 11! Met them after a show recently, VERY NICE guys!! Talked about Laklands with Sean Anderson for about 1/2 hour, he plays a Inca silver 55-02 and a SB JO5 on tour. Pulls out his old MM for some video shoots occasionally, but always goes w/ Lakeys when it matters, HAHA. Gonna go see them again soon (5th time in 2 years). I'm freakin' 36 years old and chase my fave bands around the eastern US like a Dead-Head.....what the heck, am I crazy??

Some think I'm crazy for thinking Coheed is an amazing, viable band, but those people think that Coheed is a "fad band". To me they are (if not, going to be) just as epic as Pink Floyd..............(that's right, I said it...see if I care what anyone thinks...)
But back on topic...I haven't tried playing any Interpol. I like them, but their tunes just haven't come to mind. Although, a similar sound I have played with is from the group 'Heavens' Which was started by Matt Skiba from 'Alkaline Trio'...check'em out.

I recently tried playing along to Obstacle 1 on guitar. I think I nailed it. Well, Daniel's part anyway.

I liked it better when they were small-time, they sounded better....no chicks singing backup. It was less refined, live.... i like that. I'll still support 'em no matter what though.

I imagine having female backing vocals really helps keep Claudio's voice in working order throughout a tour, so he can relax in the midrange and leave the reall high stuff to the backing vocalists. Seemed to work well.
As for bass lines, I've always been partial to Faint of Hearts, just as a song in general (in fact, it's the reason I bought any of their albums, had to hear more from them). Bass line is decent, but Ten Speed's is better. Welcome Home is far and away the easiest bass line I know of from them. Don't even try to cop Mike Todd's tone - the man's got a monster right hand and the Spector's he was using when those lines were recorded had EMG's that are hot as hell (not to mention the Tone Pump pre-amp, yeesh!). I really dig his new sound with the Fender J-bass a lot more. |

Slow hands (that'll help with moving your left hand alot but staying in time)
Not Even Jail (another for timing, plus the build up to the chorus is awesome)
NYC (it it kind of hard, but worth it)
The New (great bass intro) |

Even though these might not be the easiest ones...
Slow Hands is an octave-jumping beast of a bassline, and The New gets kinda tricky in the instrumental part.
The easiest (yet fun to play) may be:
Untitled
Leif Erikson (as mentioned above)
Next Exit
NARC
Song Seven
And if you want to learn something:
The Specialist (awesome fills + signature break)
Slow Hands (see above)
The New (see above)
Obstacle 1 (great harmonics + incredible drum&bass work in the verse)
Ah, know what? Learn the rest, too
There's no better teacher than Carlos D to show you what a bass player can (and should!) do in a band.

I really can't tell the difference LIVE anyways, between the Jazz and the Spectors he used to play. Of course, he probly wants to keep HIS sound consistent bass-to-bass, anyways. I believe in the DVD I have, he's playing a vintage P bass in the studio, I'll have to check.
I've never tried playing any of Coheed's songs....my band could never cover any anyways, the vocalist is along the lines of Eddy Vedder and couldn't even begin to sing like Claudio. I may try to learn some just to better myself, though.
