Eliminating Fingernail Click

Sign in to disble this ad
The fingernails on my picking hand are cut very low, yet the middle finger still clicks the strings quite a bit unless I exaggerate the angle at which I attack the strings. I'd appreciate any advice on eliminating the click. I'm a two fingered typist, I should be a two fingered bassist as well! Thanks.

hmm... that's very odd, if you cut your nail it shouldn't give you problems at all!, it's almost imposible, I think.... maybe the exagerated angle is the proper angle?

Agreed. Your plucking hand should be hitting at basically the pads of you fingers. You should only get fingernail noise when 1) Desirable or 2) the nail over hangs too far. Perhaps your plucking hand is playing with too much of the tip of your finger?

Agree with the above. You're either not cutting your nails short enough, or you've got a weird picking angle with your fingers when you play.

For cutting your nails when you look straight at your fingernail you should see like 1/8" or more of your fingertip in front of your fingernail.

+1 for the angle theory. Your attack angle must be too high. Your nails should only ever hit the strings if you get lazy about trimming your nails like I frequently do. Good to keep a trimmer in your case.
