Ah yes, I can't ever remember his name but he was written up in Bass Player 15 or so years ago. There are other videos of him out there playing at NAMM and stuff. Completely self taught and looks pretty cool.

If you close your eyes and listen, it does not sound any different to your usual run of the mill slap bass. It does not matter how you play, physically, what comes out, sound wise, is what matters IMO.

I think learning to play without a strap leads to this technique

If I remember correctly he was originally a classically trained violinist, so he holds the bass "violin style" while playing.

Is that a bass or just a big necklace?

That vid reminds me how much I don't care for "slap & pop" bass, even if it's played upside down.
