Exercises to combine left hand with three finger style

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello TB, i recently started practicing 3 finger technique, just started playing out with a metronome and i got it quite even now. Single note riffs aren't a problem. But playing a walking bass line for example just doesn't same to work out with three fingers. So does anyone have or know about some good exercises to combine left hand work with three finger technique?

honestly, I just stopped playing with two fingers. everything I used to play with two, I just started playing with three, and worked through the mistakes. also, another good exercise is to tap on a desk, or your leg, or something, in even beats. just quarter notes will be fine. kinda like how a person will just drum their fingers when they're bored. I did that, but made sure to keep a steady rhythm. the biggest thing is to just start learning music with the three finger technique. no real practice but doing.

One problem you might be having is that you are not alternating you plucking. If you just do 3-2-1, 3-2-1... (3 ring, 2 middle, 1 index) then you will be doing a triplet gallup type line and it is hard to switch between strings to do a walking bass line.

Try practicing your three finger technique with this pattern 3-2-1, 2-1-3, 1-3-2 and repeat. once you get this alternating pattern down it will sound smoother and it will be easier to alternate strings.
