Exercises, etc. post-surgery

Sign in to disble this ad
I had tendinitis surgery little over a week ago, and while I don't feel ready to pick up a bass and play just yet (I do practice w/o one), I'm wanting to know what I should do to gradually get my agility back. Obviously, I don't want to defeat the purpose of my surgery.

Any and all suggestions appreciated. Thanks

I had an accident back in 86 that sliced the tendon
away from the first finger of my left hand.I thank God that
they sent in a good surgeon who did repair the damage.
You went through a repairative surgery yourself and its
going to take time to get back your hand strength and
dexterity so be patient with your recovery and have faith.

When I went through therapy they gave me a container
of 'Power Putty' a blue thick putty that many martial artists
used back then to develop hand and finger strength by simply
squeezing away at the stuff. The other therapy is the rubber
ball squeezing technique which is about the same as the putty
thing. For me it hurt like hell and I found by putting my hand
in a sink of hot water I was able to work through the pain.

The good news is that if you follow the doctors orders and
be patient with yourself you should recover. It took me about
15 weeks to play bass again and it was about 9 months after
my accident that I felt at full speed.

I wish you a speedy recovery and you shall recover. I wish
you the best to get back to laying down the groove again.

Thumbs up Thank you :-)

I'm getting some thumb exercises (stretching) because the tendinitis I had was specific to the thumb, called deQuervain's. I'm already noticing a difference, and the doc prescribed 4 weeks of therapy 2x a week. I'm trying to be patient It hurts more near the scar near anywhere else.

I'm sorry you had a nasty injury, and managed to work through that! I'm not sure I could.
