Expanding my Grooves

Sign in to disble this ad
Greetings:

So here's my problem. I find my grooves a bit limited and stuck in a box. At times it is okay for me to be in the box as long as I'm carrying the groove, but other time when I want to get a little busy I find myself unable to expand beyond to a point of satisfaction for myself. I'm a fan of the mixolydian and aeolian modes but could use some help advancing my playing in other modes. I know a little about theory but it doesn't seem to help me at this stage. Thanks in advance.

P.S. I listen to alot of r&b so if you could relate the information in the terms of that style I'd be SOOOO appreciative. THANKS!!!

Grooves for Electric Bass - Musician's Institute Press - David Keif

I'm enjoying this book emmensly - it has a great play along CD - there's straight 8ths, straight 16th, triplet, shuffle 16ths. there are some modal grooves in there.

this has stuff i'd never play in one of my bands...and i might not get into some of this stuff from my music collection either!

i think RnB - as far as scales the blues scale and mixolydian will pretty much have what you need!
