Fast slap and harmonics

I've always been wondering how people play certain slap licks so fast. Have a look at this (funny) video: Click here

Starting from about 1:25 he's doing a few very fast muted slaps and it gets real crazy at 1:38. Could someone please explain what exactly he's playing with the slapping hand?

Also, at the and there's the harmonics which seem to bend downwards and up again. What's the appropriate technique for that?

These techniques aren't very common in lessons as far as I know.

what he is doing is playing with his thumb and 2 fingers ( index and middle ). he uses each digit to cover one string - thumb for e and a, index for d and middle for g and then covers three strings simultaneously with his left fingers and then gets a rolling pattern going with his right hand and moves his left hand around alternately fretting notes or letting his fingers rest on top of the strings. i do the same thing but i do it with chords and have gotten very fast at it. to try this i suggest muting all of the strings with your left hand and work on getting an even thumb slap index pluck middle pluck going and then before worrying about left hand fretted notes. the bent harmonic is this guy bending the neck (a la jaco ). these can also be done by pressing the string down on the headstock between the nut and the tuning pegs and moving the string that way ( i believe it was status basses that came up with something called the bendwell that was an extended portion of the neck with a deeper cutaway to facilitate this.

For more on this kind of slap you might want to check out Mark King and Alexis Sklarevski, just see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCoHgfCVbYE
At 00:45 he explains his 3-finger slap technique, quite nice footage.

Thanks, both of you, that was very helpful.

Would bending the neck a lot give any troubles with tuning or damaging the neck etc? Just to be sure.

Thumbs up

Don't bend the neck too hard if you planning to use that technique, it's better to bend the strings(at the tuning pegs), because you will have a lot more control that way and less risks of course.
