Finally getting somewhere-speed and precision

Keep in mind that this is relative to the sad dark space from which I started.

I have just picked up playing again for fun in the last year after a 20 year hiatus from playing. I basically picked it up because I thought it would be fun again. And it is. But as almost always, playing leads to yearning to gig. I have found myself in the presence of some amazing musicians, with whom I wouldn't even play because they are too good, but we are friends from highschool and used to play back then... I stoppedto become a chef, they didn't.

Anyhow, I find practicing boring. I really do, but I needed to get better. I found 2 songs from my time in school that really helped me get better without doing drills( I realize I should, but I never will- I just know that) -Shadows on Your Side by Duran Duran (for precision) and Synchronicity by the Police (for speed). As far as I could tell, Shadows is about 140 RPM and synchronicity is about 200. I started slow and sped up each day and voila-today is the day I could do both.

I just wanted to thank every one here for their thoughtful and helpful input posted to this board. I am now better than 'mildly adequate'. I am now adequate.
Next-more than adequate!

Glad to see you are back at it. If you study and practice wisely you can be better than ever in a short time..
