Finger picks on bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

First post here. I've always like reading this forum but just subscribed.

Anybody ever tried playing bass with finger picks? I just watched a DVD called The Blues Masters, which featured the Muddy Waters band, among others. His bass player was just wailing on a Gibson SG-style bass using a thumb pick and a finger pick on his index finger. Never saw that before. He was really flying, too.

By the way, that's a great DVD. It was a session recorded in 1966 for TV, with some of the finest names in blues-- Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Sunny Terry and Brownie McGhee, Otis Span, James Cotton, Sunnyland Slim and others-- a real all-star lineup. I got it for Christmas and just broke it open today.

I've played with fingerpicks before. I tried playing with em on my bass. it made my playing a lot faster and more accurate. but I enjoy the feel of fingers.

p.s. I used to play the banjo

I tried them briefly when I was starting out years ago. Didn't like the way the metal ones sounded, and the plastic ones weren't stiff enough to work properly, at least for my 13 year old clumsy fingers.
