Opening a can of catfood once I cut my finger open pretty bad, doctor said if it were 1/16" deeper I wouldn't have been able to use that finger when playing bass ever again.

OH MY GOD

I've had an ingrown fingernail for two months!!! I can only play with 3 fingers, so chromatics is out of the question. Goodbye Mr. Bumblebee

I feel sorry for you - hope you get better soon!

I've broken my finger twice in downhill skiing. Had to wear a plaster cast several weeks. For the first time it was the pinky and for the second time the index finger. My colleague (who obviously had perverted sense of humour) just said: luckily it was not your middle finger - what ever he ment!

permanently screwed up hands that will need surgery later.
I played since I was 5 as a goalie, broken fingers and smashed joints MANY times but thats only left me with large joints in my fingers.

The bad thing:
passed down from my mother I have whats called a trigger fingers. When I open and close my hand the little finger and ring fingers lock and pop(Trigger), its the tendon getting stuck and the joint not fitting right. the more I use my hands the more they hurt and make using my hands tougher. my left hand is worse and that makes it tough for me to play songs with long reaches for any period of time. right hand locks up and hurts just from playing hard especially live at gigs. I need to work on being lighter.
When the figure out what works(my mom had surgery twice and it comes back) I'll go under the knife for it. blah

In belgium I play this sport called "krachtbal" (free translation: powerball), you throw with ball of approx. 4 kilos to each other, I 've already sprained my pinky once, and my ring finger trying to catch a hard ball...

I broke my finger once when I hit a wall out of frustration, it was a really big frustration

I smashed my left index finger with a big hammer last week. I hit it on the pad side, squishing it up against a railroad tie. My finger kind of exploded out the side, splitting open along the cuticle on one side and looked all white and dead around where it split open. Being a right handed bass player, I couldn't play my bass for about 3 days or so. (not with that finger anyway…)

Risks of bein' your own Roadie!

Yeah...mounting the PA speakers at a New Year's Eve gig last year, I did SOMETHING to my middle right finger. As the evening went on, only the ice from my perpetual Jack and Coke kept the swelling down enough to play. By the third set, I had to call it or risk permanent injury.

I am a lefty, and my left hand just looks screwed up...it works fine, just looks messed up.

One scar is from when I got in a fight with a kid in braces, I punched him and he fell and was bleeding from his mouth, and after the fight I looked and was gushing from my middle kuckle. I told my mom that I fell and she didn't believe me.

One scar if from when I tried to give my cousin a deadarm (punch in the arm) after he gave me one and he attempted to block it with a champagne glass.

Another scar is from setting mouse traps.(I think that explains itself)

And one is from setting up a minnow trap and my ring finger was cut to the bone from a rusty clamp.

The last one is from a rugby game, I was on the ground and someone stepped on my pinkie, the 3/4 metal spike snapped my finger, sending a large shard of bone out the other side (compound fracture).

I think thats all

The bone in my first knuckle on both middle fingers hurts when I play for extended periods, like for instance a whole gig. This is because I played football in high school. Both knuckles were damaged in the same manner, they ended up between two helmets on two separate occasions, OUCH!

Accidentally closed my right index finger (plucking hand) in a car door, not enough to break it but enough to screw up the nail and draw a pretty good amount of blood. That night I went to my hockey game and proceded to jam the exact same finger, I still managed to get a hat trick though.

Anyway the point is that at the time I was just starting to learn about strumming chords. I was strumming like a guitar player would, but with no pick, right on the nail. It was a pretty painful couple of weeks but I'm pretty dumb when it comes to pain and rather than work around it I just pushed through it.
