From practicing finger techniques over the past few months there are a few things i've learnt that i want to share with people that were in the same boat as me
1. Do what you feel is comfortable, it doesn't matter what other people do such as Jaco, Steve Harris, Victor Wooten, play how YOU want to play, sometimes i play with my index and pinky (metal horn kinda thing) it works and is quite fun, mess around.
2. Speed is something i thought would take years to master, but after half an hour of playing rush and iron maiden, my hands had warmed up to the point where i could gallop with 2 fingers, something i never would have thought i could do, so just warm up a bit and you'll be fine
3. Stamina, again i play for about an hour a day and have band practice twice a week, i only ever play with my fingers now and i have greatly improved, i could once not even play for 30 seconds (this was when i just started playing bass) and now i can play for 40 minutes without a break of fast finger technique
4. Where to anchor your thumb: again just mess around because sometimes i rest on the pick up to get a clack if im playing iron maiden, if im playing funk and jazz songs i play closer to the bridge, and i alternate when my hand feels abit dead, sometimes i even rest on the pickguard.
have fun and practice, hope this helped some of you
