Ok, guys. You play bass primarily with your fingers? Join up! I don't have time to dole out numbers, but they're not hard to figure out. So, stake your claim.

No, I'm not trying to antagonize our brethren who play with a pick. It's just an expression of playing style.

Does using a pick only 5% of the time count?

Instead of arguing something as silly as the way you make the strings move, go practice.

Ok, guys. I re-phrased the question.

Perhaps "Bassists who primarily play fingerstyle" would be more fitting. Not much use for a club though, seeing as how it covers probably 80% of all bassists.

Moved.

I'm in. The calluses on my index and middle fingers are darn near bulletproof.

I'm in, but I'm weird. I also use my nails. (Can't get that tone any other way, heh, heh).

Oh, yeah, I'm in. I love fingering my bass. It makes a pretty great sound when I do. Of course, I have to play around with it just right before hand. Feels good for both of us, I think.

Try it, though. You might like it. It's fun.

So far, I practice with both fingerplucking and picking, so I'm not sure if I "fit" in this club. I do like the fingerstyle because of the warmth of the sound, and it sometimes sounds uneven in a way it almost accentuates on its own the beats that need to be accentuated. But a pick has such a nice attack to it, especially for rock which I love. And I can play way faster with a pick... when it's needed.

I go back and forth when I feel like it, but I guess I would play fingerstyle 50% of time, picking 50%. When I add slapping/popping to my repertoire, it will be 33%-33%-33%, give or take.

Am I still eligiible to be part of the club? Or maybe I should join the "all plucking styles club"? Is there one, even?

Real men play with fingers. There's no other way to get so much attitude into your music. However, I'm forced to admit that the pick has many practical applications.

Not that I'd ever use one .

It is nice to get to the gig and not have to feel bad for forgetting to bring a pick.
