Fingering for major arpeggio...

Sign in to disble this ad
G||--------------------------------||
D||-----------------5--------------||
A||-------2----5---------5----2----||
E||--3-----------------------------||

So, how do you finger the D and octave G?

I play the D with my ring finger and the G with my pinky...

It looks a bit weird but i cant figure out a better way to play it..

how about you.. ?

It depends. I guess most of the time I just place the pinky on the A and D string simultaneously, sometimes I use your fingering.

I would recommend starting with your ring finger or pinky on the E-string and finger it like this (using Amaj as an ex.):

I-------------2----------------
I---------2-------2------------
I-----4---------------4--------
I--5---------------------------
4 3 1 2 1 3 (finger used)

or, try this:

I-----------------------------
I--------------7--------------
I----------7-------7----------
I--5---9---------------9------
1 4 2 3 2 4

Also, using open strings when available is a good idea. I find it helpful to try each arpeggio in various positions to see what flows best with my hand position at that point in the song.

Hey Suckbird are you trying to make the top two notes ring out? If you are I would try using one of the other fingerings suggested. But if I were you I'd keep working on your fingering using your pinky for both the fifth and the octave. They don't have to sound simultaneously.

I'd use the pinky for both the D and octave G.

I would go 2-1-3-4-3-1-2 but I've got fairly big hands. This may not be comfortable for you, so you could just "Bar" the 5th and octave with your pinky.

I agree with Will. It really depends on what context your are playing the arpeggio. Articulation plays a big role in your fingering solution.
