Fingering Problem

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi there. I've been having a few problems and was interested to hear some of your approaches. Say you had to play the following:

------------------
------------------
-----------4-3-2-1
--1-2-3-4--------

or:

------------------
-----------4-3-2-1
------------------
--1-2-3-4--------

Would you guys jump with your pinky to the next string or roll you finger so that you weren't playing with the tip? If you were playing the shape backwards, like below, would you prepare for it by barring your fingers or just jump?

------------------
--1-2-3-4--------
------------------
-----------4-3-2-1

I find I have a problem playing "scales in 6th's" backwards because of this.

Hope that makes some sense!!

Thanks

It depends how fast it is. With some training, you can get your pinky to switch over pretty fast.

Personally, I am not above finding the most facile fingerings for complicated licks.

Practice jumping from the first string to the second string, its much better technique to play with your fingertips, rather than barring it with the bottom of your fingers..

Keep practicing it slowly gradually build up, and it will gain speed over time.

I roll every time. It's quicker and IMHO easier.
