Fingers curling up almost to the palm and not accurate with my right hand 3 fingers

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Guys

When i play with 3 fingers my fingers on my right hand, -my picking hand- curl up into my hand almost all the way

also i do alot of string skipping but with three fingers i always hit the string below

Eg: I'm playing three fingers on the A and i will hit the E string every now and then which gets really annoying =S

I love playing with 3 fingers, its fun! but when i put my mind to it and slow down and concentrate and think about my hand actions to stop my finger hitting the other string and stop my fingers curling, after a minute or two my hand cramps, and my hand position is all messed up and my fingers spread out loads so i don't get a consistent sound which i feel is important and is part of my sound

what am i doing wrong?

with the finger curling and string hitting my 3 finger are ok i can play quick with accuracy minus these two

My 2 finger technique is fine and suffers none of these/ no flaws which remove from my playing

Advice?

Regards
Adam

How do you mute your strings?

Muting with your right thumb might help - for example, playing the A and accidentally plucking the E too. You might hear a dead note, but that's about it. Or do you miss the occasional note entirely instead of just raking your finger a bit too much?

I sometimes play with 3 fingers too and never had this problem - I'd suggest reworking your technique, going really slow with a metronome and watching your fingers...

i rake my finger too much, it pulls all the way back to the E

i tend to mute with my left due to my technique but some times a harmonic rings out which is also annoying =S

I guess the floating thumb technique might be just for you, then - that way, you won't have to worry about harmonics or odd notes.

Why don't you let your fingers hit the string below? Not brush against it or pluck it or anything, but solidly rest on it momentarily. I find that it provides a natural limit to how far my fingers can go past the string I'm trying to play, making my playing more efficient.
