fingers to fretboard orientation?

Sign in to disble this ad
What is 'proper' on the fretting hand with bass - Fingertips perpendicular to fretboard (makes most sense to me) or fingers across like a capo?

The only reason I ask is that I see a lot of posed pictures of professional bassists (not playing for real) with ham fisted flat fingers. I thought this was a technique no-no.

How about wrist and finger angles on the plucking hand (fingerstyle)...is it 'proper' to have fingers only perpendicular to strings or fingers/hand/wrist perpendicular? The same obeservations apply.
