Fingers slapping pick up.

Hey guys,
I recently picked up a Stingray classic copy made by Sterling, and overall I love the bass. I have been having one problem though, no matter how low I set the pup, I always end up slapping it when playing the G and sometimes D strings. It's not just a little thud, it makes a very loud and annoying slap. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips to help fix this problem, other than not playing over the pup, playing with a pick, or lowering it so much that I get bad tone. Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't really get how your fingers hitting the pup sends a sound through your amp. If it's your strings that are hitting it I can understand. If that's the case the suggestions I have would be using a lighter touch when attacking the strings, raise the action, or use some higher gauge strings for higher tension. Hope this helps.

Well, while it does send a slight noise through the amp, that's not really my problem. The reason it gets annoying is because most of my playing is done at home at low volumes, so I can easily hear my fingers hitting the pup over my bass.
