I've got a question for any fingerstyle bassists or bassists who also play guitar: Ever since I started playing bass (2-finger, 3-finger and fingerstyle intermingled) my guitar technique has gone more towards what is considered standard technique (thumb for the low 3, i m a for the high 3). While this is cool that my technique's improving, it's getting in the way of playing a lot of my older stuff, as some of the intricacies involved having the reaction time of my thumb for some of the higher strings. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, do you know of any exercises to get the index finger up to a better speed to counter that?

Just needs more practice you should be able to do this just time and repetition. Look at the Wooten lessons on youtube that guy can do anything with his right hand. His attitude is that anyone else should be able to do it to it just requires diligent practice.

PS: Just practice your regular musical material and focus in on the weaknesses but don't obsess over it. People give up on improving new techniques because of a do or die attitude, just keep working on it and it will come. Pursue don't obsess.
