Personally I think he went through a whole lot of trouble when he could have just practiced picking. This seems alot harder and alot less versatile.

so How about the bass fingerstyle then? since it uses 3fingers it should be more efficient..

and the guy in the vid claimed he played for 11months using that method self-taught. thats pretty good speed for 11months of playing even if using the standard pick method...i say

Ever hear of a band called Dire Straits? Mark Knopfler plays with his fingers, and only his fingers. Chet Atkins fingerpicked on electric on the rare occasion that he played one, and many jazz players finger pick on electric, as well.

Didnt know that, nice.

Brandon: I tried a bit bass fingerstyle of electric, its much harder than it looks, string spacing being very small and all. It's doable though, with lots of practice, and it sounds pretty good.

I just saw the Allman Brothers and as far as I could tell Derek Trucks played fingerstyle the entire concert. Tom Petty also did a fair amount of fingerstyle during his show.

But the fingerstyle you guys are referring to are the classical guitar fingerstyle right? where the thumb picks the bass strings and the rest of the fingers play the treble.

First, it's not accurate to characterize classical guitar style as just using the thumb for the bass strings and the fingers for the treble. It's a lot more than that. Second, what you refer to as the "bassist finger style" is just a subset of classical guitar technique, from a technical point of view. It's not something different. And yeah, it's already been done.
