Fingerstyle - The rake (Pluck sweeping)

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm having trouble using the rake on multiple strings. On two I have it down pretty well but if I play from the G all the way down to A or E I'm going to pluck a lot more than I should with raking.

Does anyone know any good exercices for that?

if ive understood you properly- you can rake down from one string to the second- but not to a third or fourth string. for right hand stuff- practice the motion with all strings muted. once you can do the motion practice outlining simple chords.

No.

Can you illustrate what you mean?

My idea of raking is either using a single finger to play a descending line or using multiple fingers to play a descending line.

An example of the first one would be playing a note on the G string followed by a note on the D string and a note on the A string all with just the index finger (or any one finger).

As for the second one, an example would be playing two notes on the G string followed by two notes on the D string and two notes on the A string, where the first two notes are plucked with the pinky and ring, then the next set of two with the ring and middle (the ring is "raked") and the last set of two with the middle and index.

Of course, depending on the line, you might have to adjust your left hand technique to keep the notes from all sounding at the same time.
