Flea's 'Right On Time' Right Hand Technique Advice

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been learning the RHCP song 'Right On Time' for a while now, but I'm still having trouble with my right hand's consistency. After playing the chorus about twice, my hand locks up and I have to stop for a second. Has anyone played this song before that can give me any general pointers beyond 'Just keep practicing'?

I have a recital in 10 days, and any help would be appreciated.

(I have no other bass to use, but if it helps, I'm using a Fender P with flatwounds)

I'm not that familiar with that tune, but if your hand is getting tired, you're straining to much. try to relax your hand more while you play.

This song is a doozie. C'mon girl is a similar style. I have better luck with these tunes if I'm warmed up.

Find some warmup exercises you like (though they are boring) and do those as long as it takes til you're not cramping up.

Here is a Flea-approved warm-up for preventing cramping: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1LlN...eature=related.
