Thumbs up floating thumb again...

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi folks,

I don`t know. Mostly stuff I read here is extremely good karma for me, but I seem to have a problem with this floating thumb thing.
It gives me the presision I`ve always dreamed about, also string muting is cool, but it takes away all my speed while changing strings.
Should it requie force to move my thumb from one string to another? When I move my thumb up, everything is ok, but when it moves down, bad things happen.

Help.

I don't think you have to stick to putting your thumb on one string - to me that's not really "floating"!

I just leave my thumb pointing downwards across all the strings below the one I'm playing, jut lightly sitting there. I find this more flexible and means your thumb is ready when it is needed to do something else - like plucking the lower strings or playing artificial harmonics - or even slapping!
