Floppy strings and anchor

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, I'm thinking of getting a new bass soon and I have somewhat of a probem. At the moment I am using a split P/J ibanez GIO. I mostly used the P pickup but I would anchor my thumb on the J. Now, I am looking a mexi P bass but when I anchor my thumb, The string feels all flopy. Are there special techniques I should learn? Thank you.

some have also put thumbrests in the J-PU position...although the aesthetics don't agree with my palette.
