Found myself turning into a music snob, or just more experience

Ok so a few months ago when i saw people complaining about picks i thought "why not? you can get a different sound and the are easier" but now after practicing my finger technique a lot more, i find myself being the opposite, and hating on people that use picks. I'm probably just learning more which is changing my fews, or im becoming a snob.

Why hate! Picking and fingering are different techniques for different styles. I use both. If I'm doing some blues, I prefer finger style. Most heavy metal asks for a pick. The same issue is going on with flatwounds and roundwounds. If there were no difference, we would all be alike.

Honestly, I couldn't care less what anyone thinks about what I do. If I want to use fingers, I use fingers. If I want to use a pick, I use a pick. If I cared what anyone else thought about what I do, I'd never get anything done.

This doesn't even make sense to me. I don't see how "learning more" would change your views on pick playing to be honest. Learning usually involes being open to ideas not shutting them out.

well basically, now i developed playing with fingers, i've come to preferr it, and it feels better and more natural. So i dislike picks more. Simple.

So you personally disliking them makes other players who use them lesser than you because...?

Another +1 for snob.

I've grown to be more open to things as I've gotten older. You probably should too because it'll open up doors to new things for you to learn and experience.

I, for one, have been plucking all my life, and I've been teaching myself to pick recently because it sounds more appropriate for certain songs. I've got to say: PICKING IS HARD!!!!

Maybe if you're switching from guitar to bass and you're already used to picking then it's easier...

Bottom line: "ONE IS BETTER THAN THE OTHER" or "ONE IS HARDER TO LEARN THAN THE OTHER" OR "PICKING IS FOR NOOBS" IS RIDICULOUS AND UNFOUNDED. THERE SHOULD BE NO ARGUMENT HERE. SAYING THESE THINGS MAKES YOU SOUND LIKE AN AMATEUR.

I really hate caps lock, but you guys forced me to use it.

Maybe talk about "this style sounds more appropriate in this setting or vice versa."

[edit]And honestly, thinking that one is better than the other does not make you a snob, it makes you IGNORANT.

I don't see why other people would give a fat rats ass if someone uses a pick or fingers to play. If what they're playing sounds good and is working for them, then that should be all that really matters. As we tell our clients, "people need to keep the focus on themselves, rather than worry about what others are doing."

Ya, for some reason, many people have this stupid need to poop all over someone else's thing to feel better about themselves. Bass players are especially guilty. Very insecure behavior, and not at all appealing to girls.

Unjustified snobbery. Plenty of fine bass lines done by pick players. Plenty of sounds you can only get with a pick.

Versatile players can use both.

I do actually find using picks is easier, with finger style it takes a loooooong time to build the strength, endurance, speed, and accuracy to play at speed 140bpm+ with an even tone.

IME with a pick, I would consider it more of a getting used to it kinda thing. Pick up a pick and bam, with little to no practice you can fairly easily bust out with 200bpm+ 16ths with relative ease.

While I'm not trying to say one is better than the other, ime pick is just easier.

I find with any hobby I have, when Im focusing on a technique or whatever in that hobby I get so absorbed in the technique that I cant help but become overly prideful of that technique ( in your case on this one that would be finger style) and discount other techniques and schools of thoughts etc. I don't think your being a snob I just think your experiencing a bit of pride like everyone else does from time to time P.S <-------- that guys using a pick

Same for me except I always use rounds. They are more punchy and cut through the mix better.
