Fret hand fingering problem

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm stuck for ideas on a 9 x 16th note riff played at 100bpm from Andrew Jackson's bassline on Move Me No Mountain. I can play it at 80% speed ok anytime, but need to warm up to 90% nearly all the time, and can't quite make it at 100% at all. Maybe I'm not practising it right, maybe there is a better fingering. Any advice?

Here's the tab (detuned 4-string to C/F/Bb/Eb) with my fingerings underneath:

-3-4-----------------
------2-5---2-------
-----------2-----2---
---------------3---0-
2 3 1 4 1 2 3 1 -

Here's the riff:

There's no point in fingering that '5' when you can just play the open string. I have my bass out now and tried it. Can't do it how you have written smoothly, but can with open string.

Am giving it a go with the open string, getting to grips with deadening the open 4th string as I'm playing the 2nd frret on the 2nd string. So far so good, thanks for the idea MistaMarko. I'd originally used the '5' to maintain control but it's a bit of a stretch.

The run as I hear it is more like this,

-3-4-----------------
------2-5----2-------
-----------5---2--5-
---------------------0-
2 3 1 4 4 2 2 4 - 0

There is quite an open string option here with that, but I would keep it in pattern for control and muting, good practise for rolling 4th's.
