| | | | Fretless with a pick?

I have a rock gig that requires some pick playing and my only current bass is fretless, will that sound good in a rock setting?
Is the Fretless/Pick combo blasphemy? Does it sound good with a full band?
Thanks. |

Sincerity will overshadow anything unconventional about your rig or your technique.
Sure, fretless with a pick is an odd combination, but why shouldn't it work? Just play your heart out. No one will question anything! |

No. Play how you want. Play what you've got. And play what sounds good.

Watch this video, all your doubts about playing fretless with a pick will be flushed away. (NB: he doesn't actually whip out the pick till about a quarter of the way in ) |
