Fretting hand wrist angle

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm a beginner bass player (less than a year) and am concerned about the angle of my wrist on my fretting hand. I find it very difficult to accurately fret notes without bending my wrist but am experiencing a lot of tension when playing lines that have a bit of movement to them. Straightening out my wrists causes me to bang around quite a bit and miss the notes I'm shooting for.

Here is a quick video I took of my wrist angle, please excuse the poor playing.

Is this tension normal? Is it simply a strength issue or do I need to address the angle of my wrist?

Thanks

A good rule of thumb is to keep your thumb pointed towards the headstock. The bend isn't too bad, if you want to see an example of someone with pretty solid technique, look at Ed Friedland's videos, ex: YouTube - Warwick Corvette Standard
