Frustrated Slapper!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
Now I have your attention, and have assured you I've read the stickies and searched, here's my problem.

I'm (IMHO) an intermediate player, with my own gigging band, and regular venues. I've always played fingerstyle but I've now started to learn to slap, with help from the Ed Freidland DVD. I'm finding my Warwick Corvette (with J/J pups) a bit cramped in that Mr F advovates using the body of the bass to bounce your pinkie and ring finger off to provide rebound for your slapping hand, but the way the body is shaped my fingers slip off the lower edge of the body, if that makes sense. Is this just a matter of practice and maybe adapting what is shown on the DVD, or are some basses easier to slap than others.

Sorry for the noobie question and thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Peace

Kurt

I think it's more likely my poor explanation. I guess it'd be easier if you had seen the DVD I'm using.

I'll put it another way. If you're slapping with the thumb of your right hand, and popping with the index and middle finger, what are your other 2 fingers doing-are they curled up or are the tips hitting the body of the bass?

Actually, I've just had a thought. I'll have a look on YouTube and see what others do and how it compares to my DVD.

Peace

Kurt

Typically curled up, at least that's what mine do. Actually all the fingers on my right hand are curled up.
