If someone wants to say that the bass wasn't quite in the pocket or they didn't like the rhythm guitar part or the solo wasn't happening that would be one thing but all I've seen are sarcastic snipes.
The point of this group should be to help and support each other and to elevate each other's playing with constructive criticism if necessary. Not making negative, smart-ass comments without any constructive advice.

No doubt you are a good player but the music needs maturity! Right now it's just a wall of mush. Simplify the bassline so the guitar solo can breathe. The tempo could stand to be slowed down a bit as well. |

The funny part is when I layed down the backing tracks for both of those tunes, I accidentally had an overdrive pedal on! |

I'm now spending way more time on bass than guitar and I'm even playing and studying double bass these days. |

You sound very talented and I'd love to hear more of what you are doing on the bass. I'm sure I don't have to tell you, but bass is all about the groove, baby... |

I started out just trying to slap and pop but playing upright has really helped me concentrate on groove though obviously I have more work to do. |

Seriously though, I've played a slap/pop style for years, and while I love playing it and it can be very funky, I rarely seem to use it in a band situation. Now a good funky fingerstyle, that I can appreciate. In your main "funk/fusion" clip, you definitely have the whole ToP- Rocco Prestia thing going on, which is very cool, but just a little too busy.
And since you shared with me, I'll share with you.
Here is a quick rough clip of my band doing Jamiroquai's Runaway: link removed
It's nothing nearly as impressive as your playing, but it is one of the few sound clips where I think I sound decent.

One drawback to focusing on bass is that my guitar playing has really declined. The rhythm guitar on your clip is nicely in the pocket. I had a bit of a hard time hearing the bass. I'll listen again tomorrow with headphones. Thanks for sharing and for the constructive comments. |

"Breathless" would be a good title.
I felt like I was running up a hill listening to it!
Could use a little "chill".
But anyway, if it came on my XM radio while I was driving, I wouldn't change the station, and I'd probably crank it up. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
