What approach do you folks use when teaching and/or learning new right and left hand technique(s)?

Start by playing with both hands together, or focus on one at a time?

++1. Why allow bad habbits to get settled in one hand whilst focussing on another? Also, bad technique in one hand might make you sound bad, no matter how good the technique in the other hand is.
