Hey guys.
So, I learned how to play Brick House by the Commodores today, and it reaffirmed my love for the funk style of bass play.
What I need now is a list of good old school AND new school funk songs to learn, but prefer that they have instantly recognizable grooves, and rock the funk as undeniably as Bootsy himself.
Prefer simple ones to start too, so if you don't mind marking the difficulty of your recommendations from 1 to 5 *'s, where 5 is the most difficult.
Thanks.

Drummers seem to love to play that song, and it's got a very manageable solo in the beginning. its probably about a 1.5, maybe 2 on your difficulty scale. You should give it a listen, it is ridiculously funky...

I hope this thread gets huge, old school funk is the way to go. |

Too bad they deleted the Funk 101 thread! There was a wealth of information in that one!

The Jam - Graham Central Station
Give it up or Turn it loose - James Brown
Just a Touch - Slave
Can You Get It (Suzie Ceasar) - Mandrill
Joyous - Pleasure
Alphabet Street - Prince

In Time - Sly & the Family Stone
Weak at the Knees - Steve Arrington

Louis Johnson's line on the Brothers Johnson's "Strawberry Letter 23" (3-4) is another funky classic.
