I'm learning how to pop and slap, and I would like something more to play than what my instructor has given me. Right now we are just learning patterns in the key of E, but I want to learn some music.
Anyone got anything that I could play that isn't too difficult? I'm not talking about RHCP. Throw what you got at me!
Youtube links appreciated.

I'll also submit a suggestion if you don't mind. Take some of the songs you already know--finger style or whatever--and play them during your practice time using slap techniques. If nothing else, you'll get some practice making music with the technique rather than a lot of lightning fast "plplplplplplpl-twink" stuff.
Sorry "plplplplplplpl-twink" was the best thing I could think of to mimic a super sonic slap line.

On another note, I am looking for something that I can find the tabs or sheet music to!

Also check out some of his stuff with Graham Central Station ("Water", "Hair" and "Pow"). Level 42 is chock-full-of great slap lines (some easier than others). "Love Games" is a good one for getting your left-hand percussive hits together. |

Another great source of groove for slap players is The Brothers Johnson - try Stomp, Get the funk outta my face, or just about any of their tunes! Very cool.
Bros Johnson are a great band to come back to when players get acrried away with trying to slap too fast as well. I tend to find that when students/friends/other players get carried away they can lose their groove...Bros Johnson is the best remedy haha!
All the best! JOHN |

The instruction is top-notch and the CD examples are amazing. Most modern slap players reference this book as the place to start learning.
Here's the link to his site with some examples. http://www.slapit.com/home.html

| | | | I recommend to jam with drum machines as well.. And try not to use tab/music sheets, mainly just for ear training purposes.
check out my channel too.

But why do you spend money on a teacher if you aren't content in that environment?
Maybe I'm over-thinking things, because one needs to do more than just show up for lessons, but when I read that something struck me as amiss. |

IMO Teddy (my bass teacher) is an amazing bassists, and an amazing teacher. I will be going to him for a long time.
I went to him asking him to teach me how to improv and slap. So far he is teaching me both, but I want to learn some music also, after he played a Larry Graham bit I wanted to learn that, but I didn't think to ask him as it was a couple of days later.
