Good songs to learn to play with a pick?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am forcing myself this week to only play with a pick as much as I can.

Can I get a list of easy to somewhat complicated songs to play with a pick?

Thanks!

Currently playing some Green Day.

Check out a lot of The Cure's work. Simon Gallup plays mostly with a pick and his melodic basslines are fundamental to a lot of their music. All of their music is interesting, though I prefer everything they did up through the Disintegration album (1991).

Tool - The Pot/Schism/Aenima/H.

hell, go for the entire catalogue. He's a good plectrum player.

Yes - Roundabout

Muse - Knights of Cydonia

Anything by Rancid, Matt Freeman is a punk plectrum demon.

All the tool songs are easy but somewhat difficult at first.

My favorites are:

The Grudge (If you have delay)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQwULgtXvpI

Aenima (Pretty Easy)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbsghSeLx8M

Stinkfist (Easiest. Just powerful!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6vdypm8Noo

Forty-Six & Two (Just strange)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_R9iJ...eature=related

Ticks & Leeches (Easy, Powerful)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RelR85j09XY

The Pot (Fun riff, sounds much more impressive than it really is)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-L1KYU-7Nug

Jambi (Again for delay.. POWERFUL)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7MLry_kl2U

How could I forget SCHISM!?

The only song I play with a pic is Got the time

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=be7iNHw8QoQ

I find it much easyer with a pic, and I get a more aggressive tone.

i know it can be done with your fingers, but it would take some time to get up to speed. with a pick its a real great, fun song to do..

Since the odds of you getting the right tone to most RATM or Iron Maiden with your fingers is pretty slim, I suggest those. I know Steve Harris and Tim C. are finger players, but there is definitely merit to learning the stuff with a pick.
