Got a right handed problem :(

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello,

I just signed, so hello .
Bass playing is my life, I fail at everything else. I thought I found the way to go by playing the bass, but ofc, as can only happen to me, I have a rather weird problem that most others don't seem to have
After a while playing my right hand turns cold, less accurate etc. ...
This really keeps me from playing some songs ='(.
Doctor says I have Raynaud's syndrome. Heating up my chamber doesn't really work, and I'm already on meds.
Still, any tips guys? =s.

Thanks for reading anyways,
Cheers, me

You've checked out all the other possible General Care options?

I have a similar problem, but it's due to my low blood circulation. Omega 3/fish oil supplements in your diet should help a little.

Maybe playing with a pick would work for you.

Do you have access to a specialist / physical therapist?

That's the way to go. Sounds like you're tweaking a nerve or blood vessel somehow.

Does it occur when you're standing and playing, or if you sit and play, or just all the time?

You should really get to a specialist and get a proper diagnosis.

Best of luck to you.

Well, I'll never give up on playing the bass, but would playing a guitar be easier (physically)?

+1 Why don't you try this first, there are great pick players out there, it's gotta be worth a shot. It'll take the pressure off your right hand and it's a cool flexible sound and technique. Maybe what your looking for? Try lightening the force you play with to give the circulation some space, take it easy fella ; )

Well, I certainly try that too But I love the sound of slapping too, and this is where it gets harder for me :s.

I have the exact same problem. Caffeine and tobacco aggravate Raynaud's, so avoid them. Sometimes I keep a handwarmer in my pocket, and use it frequently to warm up my right hand (for some reason when I play my left hand is not affected, probably because I'm moving the fingers a lot more).
