There were plenty of models in the 35.00 to 45.00 dollar range for the poor folks but to be serious they are custom hand made picks and I'm sure they are worth it because of the labor and materials used but I would love to try one to compare it to a lower cost pick.

I've been using the Gravity RazorXL 3mm for a while and I like them. They do wear a little as time goes by.... I believe they are plexiglass. They have some word for it but (acrylic maybe?) but it's plexiglass. I saw someone sells it in sheets but as long as you don't lose too many of them you can just get the 5 pack and you're good to go.

I would buy a couple but I saw the two week delay before shipping so I think I'll pass

Further proof that some people have way too much money.

I can probably pick up 2 whole packs of Dunlop Tortex picks for that money. They work just fine for me (on those rare occasions when I actually use a pick), and my guess (without having tried the gravity picks) is that they're really not that much different.

Just my $0.02.

And if you haven't tried what you're commenting on $0.02 is about what your opinion (which you are completely entitled to here at TalkBass) is worth. I admit I was quite skeptical until I tried the Blue Chips. I still curse the guy who first put one in my hand (Jake deVilliers) every time one of mine goes missing. I'm not rich and I'm not a total idiot out to try and impress anyone with how much my gear costs. If these picks weren't worth it to me in terms of feel and tone I wouldn't be shelling out that kind of money. And to keep things in perspective $35 for a pick that will never wear out vs. the cost of my amp and bass and what I pay a year for strings is F*** A** when it really does make a difference to my sound.

Your guess that Gravity Picks are not much different than other picks is dead wrong. They have a unique feel and distinctive sound. They didn't suit my playing but they're well made and the company was a pleasure to deal with.

What are you insulting the guy for - he knows what he likes - why change? I've been playing with picks exclusively since 79', and have tried many picks, and always come back to Dunlop nylon .60 / .73 / .88 picks. I hate plastic picks as they turn, and spin between your fingers while playing - especially if you're sweating. The cheapo nylons have a molded gripping surface that works much better than plastic, and I do like thinner picks for the snap. I would never buy a pick for $35 - I don't care what.

I tried a Gravity and the tip cracked off the first time I played it hard. Dunlop Tortex work fine for me. They don't crack and last a long time.

And they are not $35 each.

You've gotta be kidding. I'm not insulting the guy, I'm pointing out saying things like:

when you haven't even tried what you're commenting on is unhelpful, uninteresting and worst of all just plain wrong. I don't have a ton of dough and paying that kinda money for a pick isn't something I'd do unless it really and truly, honest to god, no doubt about it made a significant difference to my sound. Who is he or anyone else to say otherwise? It's not like I'm saying it will make a difference to YOU.

I lose my picks all the time...and I rarely use a pick!

I'd hate to lose one of these...unless they're warranty'd!

I think they are made of polycarbonate. I didn't try them yet. I did try a Dunlop polycarbonate pick (the green one) and it felt and sounded different from the standard Tortex types in a positive way. I only pick occasionally.

the shape looks appealing ....i'd like to try em ....on guitar that is .....however, i'm pretty sold on dunlop ultex - i've been buying picks for 25 years and nothing has compared to Ultex yet!

I used to be a 1.5 mm to 2 mm pick user but with Ultex i'm going with 1 mm and .73

Does this company make picks at 1mm .....all the pics are pretty thick! over the years i've learned thick picks 1mm + cause me to loose feel and nuance.

The whole pic thing is kinda quirky .....i paid good $ once for Water Buffalo horn picks that wore at the speed of light and were far less accurate than standard dunlop picks.

Most of these boutique picks are aimed at shredderific Bluegrass guitar players in all honesty! Rock guitar players swap pickups and pedals ....bluegrass guys get REALY into their picks!

looks like a "Frock" pick from back in the day. the only issue is once you get used to those it can be very hard to go back to a regualr pick.

I can vouch for the Blue Chip picks. I've been using them exclusively for 2-3 years now. I have two of the TAD-1R 1mm which has three playing surfaces: two triangular and one rounded. I can get different tones depending on which side I use. Also, I've always had problems with picks slipping in my hand until I got these. The material has a slightly tacky feel to it. Much easier for me to hold on to. The picks also have virtually no noise to them. No plastic, clicking noise. I hate that!

Also, to all the naysayers. Picks really can alter your tone and feel. I used to collect picks. I had all kinds of shapes, gauges and materials before settling on the Blue Chips.

Stone picks are interesting if you want a really metallic sound!
