Greetings, My name is Russell and I started about 2 months ago on bass. Im fifteen, and I would like to ask for some beggining techniques. I have been taking lessons from www.activebass.com, but I would like to go farther. Currently I am trying to learn how to Thumb Slap, but I am not sure if I am doing it properly. So like I said before, I would like some begginner techniques.
Help will be very much appreciated.

There are other guys who do it "better" than Larry Graham, but nobody sounds as good. None of that triplet-double thumbing stuff for him. Just brute force  |

| | | | Sorry Verbrannter, but im not his brother...and for my technique I use three finger plucking, but I used to pick. Also I would like to let you know that I am into more of the metal scene, but I always take the time to listen to jazz as long as it has a bass in it. |

It took me over a year to start as I initially found slap intimidating. Guess it looked harder than it actually is. I don't use it much now but all the best of luck my friend.
I have a friend who just start slapping and he is using a book called Bass Guitar for Dummies. It comes with a CD and he seems to be getting some very good results with it. |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jul 2005 Location: Oahu | | | as it may seem great to play 3 finger plucking. i think you are trying to eat the wjole whale before taking a bite. start with one then go to 2 and then three. its easier in the sense that you wont get as fustrated trying to work everything with those 3 fingers. i know your only 15 but let me ask you this when you say work out, do you try to max out or work your way up. dont hurt yourself. plus it might limit you in the future.
