Is this guy stretching for real?

Sign in to disble this ad
Just came across this pic of DMB's bassist on warwicks site (didnt know he played a 'wick). Anyway, is this stretch in the picture for real? I mean, comon....how many frets is his range here? I can't even understand it, if you will help me i'd appreciate it, thanks.

Yea, I've seen this "live" (on TV) also. He's just got monstrous strechy hands. Lucky him.

So what kind of stretch is it exactly? Is he really stretching six (or seven?) Frets, and hitting that G string with his pinky? Just wondering, thanks

That looks like more than six or seven frets. I can easily do 5, and seven isn't that bad. But, I do have to move a bit; he looks like it's absolutely no problem.

Well, that looks crazy! But I doesn't look as it's that much more than my max stretch which down on the neck is 5 frets (quite easy but 6 is impossible to me), from the low F to C on the G string, or 8 frets higher up on the neck (E on the 12th fret (E str.) -> D on the 20th fret (G str.)

I have quite small hands actually, but I can stretch pretty well anyway

Doesn't look like he's playing the G or C string at all here. I think only the light on the left arm might it look like a finger and that he's playing the E or B string with his pinky.

Well, a stretch that far is really unnecessary. Once you stretch 5 frets, you have the same note as the note on the same fret and one string up (D to G). He probably just wants bass players to think about it.

Jaco's son Felix can reach from the first fret to the seventh without movement!

Probably about 5...maybe 6 frets. Pretty unnecessary usually but it's not uncommon if your hand is big enough. These big ol' bear paws can do it, just really don't play any music that calls for it.
