Harmonics

So I love playing my schecter but the harmonics are really annoying me. I can't lay a few notes without the harmonics chiming and making everything sound off. Is there to get rid of that?

I think that you are experiencing the effects of improper muting techniques. make sure that you are muting the strings that you aren't playing, and that you kill each note when it's time is up. Both hands are part of proper muting technique.

You may also be getting some ringing from above the nut. Try this: take an elastic hair scrunchy, a wristband, a handkerchief, ect, and wrap it around the neck above the nut and below the tuners, so that it does not mute or affect the open strings, but mutes the strings between the tuners and the nut. Don't tie it too tight, or you will have tuning problems.

For many here, too much harmonic content in your notes is a problem that they would not mind having

Id think it was also likely a result from your fretting technique. I love useing harmonics fairly often as part of fretting nuances Nonetheless you can decrease the amount of noticeable harmonic content by shifting the blend of the pups a little. Most folks want to know how to increase the ability to get harmonics and bell tones, and its half pup use (where blend is set after adjusting pups for desired solo and combined voices) along with fretting technique. Your probably being a little too light with a bit too fast removal of fretting finger in your case, since wants the opposite, less harmonics and fewer bell chimes. Lol.

Sorry flatwounds aren't the answer to everything. You can't use strings to cover up your lack of technique.

TB has instructed me that the only bass you need is a P Bass with flats and it can get any sound in the world.

On a serious note, the problem could be in either or both hands in terms of technique. I would look at taking a few technique lessons. Without a video clip, I can't diagnose this over the interweb.

Hahaha. I have no problem with flats, I love them. But when you have trouble with muting and need improving on your technique, you shouldn't just go buy some flat wounds because they're quiet to cover up the problem.

My bass tone is so awesome it's out of this world!

Don't forget the shape of the body and nut width.
It's a crossdressing Jazz bass.

Why can't people learn to accept PJ basses?
So much hatred and discrimination.
We're here, we're PJ, get used to it!

Even though I dig flats ... they shouldn't be used just to get rid of some extra harmonics; only overall tone. Try some different hand techniques. IF that doesn't work, perhaps try a different brand of string OR steel vs. nickel (and visa versa).
