Having so much fun with a pick!

Hi everybody.

A couple of days ago I was playing Motörhead's "Ace Of Spades" at home with my analog overdrive pedal for guitar and suddenly I recalled a very cool riff for guitar, which I thought it would be a great exercise for all of us who are not "pick experts". Checked out the recording and yes, I started practicing it since it's so much fun and it's a rocker! Here's my transcription with pick strokes included:

I think it's the best way to use the pick for this riff but again, I have no expertise with the technique. The only part I'm still struggling with is the second triplet plus the subsequent sixteenth note to sound clean and articulated. As I said in another thread, the Rickenbacker 4003's plate that covers the bridge pickup is an godsend for pick playing (to me). With my Bongos, I have to move my hand closer to the bridge to avoid unintended palm muting.

The riff is played many times backing a guitar solo and then the band stops and even more fun comes:

As an intro for the last, unaccompanied lead guitar solo (Let's play a game and guess which tune is this - for old rockers).

Not precisely playing the bassist's role here, but anyway this is a novelty for me (a piece o' cake for expert pick players, for sure) and I'm practicing it very enthusiastically. Hope you like it as well and give it a try.

Nobody?

Hint: In this case, "old" points to true fans of really popular rock bands around 1975.

I can see one thing that would help...downstrokes on all the beats. You've got up and downstrokes hitting beats, and I find it a lot easier to keep time accurately if you hit only downstrokes on the beat.
