Heavy pop sound when slapping E string

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi

I get a heavy pop sound when I slap the bottom E string (it sounds distorted as if I am hiting the pick up too hard with the string).

Is this down to:

poor technique

or

poor set up for slap
or

amp settings

or a combination of all?

I am just starting out with slap, can anybody offer any sound advice or websites to help me with this problem?

Thanks in advance.

I was having something like this happen to me. It was a nasty popping sound, mainly on the E when I plucked hard or tried to slap on that string.

I believe it was the E string actually contacting the pole pieces on the pickups (it was a Jazz type bass). I lowered my pickups, and not only has the popping sound gone away, but I like my tone better too.

Try lowering your pickups and see if it quits.

I was thinking it was the pole pieces too. Hopefully lowering the pickups will solve it.

I had the same problem once, it was hitting the neck pickup.

Yeah, i'd bet small money that would help you. Lower that sucka (or both of them) and see what happens!

Set them at 3-3.5mm and you should be fine.
