I dont really know if this has to do with Technique or anything, but I dont know where else to post it.

I've been playing bass for about a year now, and i've learnt almost everything i can play sitting at my computer playing along with the music. So naturaly im used to sitting here and jamming. So playing standing up is like starting all over again, adjusting to playing standing up is proving too be harder than i expected. My friends and I are thinking of starting up a band shortly, so i can sit down all the time then! If anyone has any warm-ups or exercises that may prove helpful can you please post them, or just tips in general.

my friend sucks at playing electric guitar standing up too so im not alone

Start practicing everything you can play sitting down while you're standing up. Slow down, and relax.

Have your bass at roughly the same height standing as you do sitting. If your bass is dangling around your knees when you're standing shorten your strap so your bass is higher at belly or chest level, whatever feels comfortable to you.

And practise standing instead of sitting.

+1
With the bass in about the same position regardless of whether you are standing or sitting, it will be much easier to keep your technique (and your chops) up to par. If you still have trouble, try transitioning by using a 30" stool for a while.

And don't skimp on the strap, get a nice comfortable one so that the 10 pounds hanging on your shoulder won't beat you down during long practice sessions.

Yes!!

I'm basically in the same posistion as you (practicing in front of a computer for a year, jamming with a room mate a little bit on a few songs), and I love having the bass at the height it is when sitting on my leg. Feels just so... right ^^

My room mate also has the standing problem, but I've always liked standing and it didn't take me too long to get used to it. Standing up is a lot more fun, in my opinion. Just keep it up and you'll be fine in a few weeks. Start trying to dance like an idiot or imitate your favourite bass player and you'll be having fun... though, not if your girlfriend sees you doing it.

Just play sitting down all the time. Big bands and orchestras do it all the time.

lol, playing sitting down at a gig won't look good if you are playing rock, or anything like that. Imagine your fav rock bassist playing sitting down, doesn't look good does it? All the acvice here tells all you need to know.
