HELP WITH G&L ASAT BASS

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a G&L ASAT semi-Hollow bass. I really love it. It has a lot of power, is light-weight, and can be used for lots of different playing situations. For some reason, the neck, at least to me, has a "long feel". Getting to the lower end of the register, especially on E and A, can be difficult. I don't know if its because my arms are short, or there is something about the construction of the bass that makes the neck feel long. Does anyone have any experience with this? Does anyone have any ideas?

Its the shortness or lack of upper horn, that causes the body to sit further to your left making the reach longer.Body styles have alot to do with the way a bass sits and feels on your body.

Believe it or not, there is something about the ASAT bass that would make you think of it as being longer than, say a Precision or a Jazz bass. The body is smaller & that changes the location of the strap buttons & that changes how the bass sits on your body when you're hanging it.

See the attached & quickly thrown together graphic* for a comparison.

The J & P strap buttons are by the 12th fret, but the ASAT strap button is by the 17th fret, extending the length the neck sticks out from your body by a few inches.

He beat me to it. I should have spent less time making the graphic & then I would have gotten the credit!

Sweet. You know I only do it for the credit. Helping people and learning from them has absolutely NOTHING to do with why I post here.

if you have an older one with the 3 bolt neck, there is a strap extender that someone made for it that you may still be able to find...
