Help needed - fingering

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello TB!

Here's a riff in a song my band plays, and although I can play it, and played it on gigs before, I'm still not sure what would be the best fingering.

The song is pretty fast, 190-195 BPM.

My main trouble (not only in this song, pretty much everywhere) is playing a fourth. I tried to play it with the same finger, but the problem is muting the note that comes first. This way, I have to use 2 fingers, which sounds good, but makes it harder to move around the neck.
What advice can I utilize here?

the lower string, when playing fourths, is best dampened by the fingers of the right hand, not the left because of fret buzzing issues.
means: if you play the root with the index finger, play the next string with the middle finger and dampen the root-string by laying your index finger on it. on double-bass this is a standard (although fretless players don't have that much issues about fret buzzing )

gary willis has a video on youtube.. i think its "progressive bass lesson" where he shows off the problem of muting strings, the missing note-length when switching strings and so on. i think it will help you a lot
