Help Needed!!: Improvisation issues

When I'm jamming with my band and it's my turn to solo, I get a little nervous, I mean, I know what to play but I certainly need a guidance on what to choose and what not to choose. Sometimes I play a note and inmediatly know that I'm out of tune, and I want to fix this problem.

I need to know the scales on all the fretboard and how to use them, but where to start?

Oh... so in other words, you don't know what to play.

(At least not until after you've played it.)

Two words: ear training.

Well, there are a lot of things that you can do. Learn the scales, here you got a free bass scales chart for download: http://www.easymusiclessons.com/bass-scales.html then start with ear training and most of all, listen to the artists/bands that you like and try to play over them. With a patience and effort you'll get on your way. Don't get frustrated and relax, the mind block is your enemy when it comes to practicing.

Hope that this helps!

Start at the begining and realize this is something you cant rush a fix on. You answered your own Q by saying "I need to know the scales on all the fretboard and how to use them, but where to start." I asume you're a young player so learn your scales and it will become easier to know where to "start" as a result of patient training.
