Recently, I've been trying to improve my playing.
...only to results in chipped nails and blood on my strings.
I need some recommendations please?

There are alot of different ways of going about playing 2 (or more) strings at a time. What kind of playing did you have in mind??

The two ways I do are either use the back of my fingers and smack the strings. This is more powerful sounding. The other more subtle sounding way is just using one finger per string and plucking up at the same time.

Make sense?

to expand on / echo what metallicafan said:

* use multiple fingers, or a finger and a thumb, or multiple fingers and a thumb...
* scrape multiple strings using your nail like a pick, or using the tip of your thumb, or using an actual pick, or the soft side of your finger...

if you're chipping nails and bleeding, you're doing it too hard. or you need to toughen up your hands. but you're probably doing it too hard.

I started off using 2 fingers, but that got in the way, so I decided to use them back of my fingers. I have been doing it softer and it's working a but better.
Ps, I play a LOT of Metallica, since they are my favourite band, I also play RHCP too.

You can also use your thumb as a pick for strumming 2 or more strings.

You can see and hear examples here :
