help with using 3 fingers

Sign in to disble this ad
i've recently started using my index, middle, and ring finger when finger picking. i'm finding it difficult to play songs fast and play songs that require switching string frequently. does anyone have any advice or helpful lines to practice?

and i have one more question, when i switch down a string, i use the same finger that i used on the above string for the first note. like if i was switching from the A string to the E string, i would just let the finger that played the note on A slide down and hit the note on E. is this a bad technique?

Try to play scales with the fingers 1for index, 2 middle and 3 ring.
So what you do is play the scales and do all the time fingers 1,2,3,2, 1,2,3,2
And then the same with 3,2,1,2,,
Use a metronome and you can add little speed every day

After when you feel more comfortable try to play a song you know whit the same fingering.

Hopefully this help

Practice, practice, practice. Drill everything to a metronome. Eat your cereal at 120bpm. And make sure to make your three-finger technique as similar to your two-finger technique as you can make it. Don't flatten out your fingers if you don't do that normally, don't change your angle of attack, keep the same finger spacing, etc.

That 'scraping down' thing is known as economy picking. If you prefer the rigidity and safety of set picking patterns, then don't economy pick. If you like the fluidity of chaotic patterns, then economy picking is your best friend. Of course, there's a million shades of gray in between. Basically? Do it if it feels right.
