hey i need some help with my bass, when i slap and pop the strings hit the fret board , what should i do to stop this from happening

...They're suppose to do that. The sound from slapping and popping is the strings hitting the fretboard, unless they hit the fretboard and choke the sound dead.

Yeah, that IS supposed to happen, but if your that worried about it just raise the action.
