Hitch hikers thumb left hand position..

Sign in to disble this ad
So I just finished my lesson today and we start talking about my left hand position and I have a hitch hiker's thumb(for those who doesn't know what it is I posted a picture of my thumb) so my teacher told me to just do whatever is comfortable for me.. I usually rest my thumbs first joint in the middle of the neck.. I don't know if I'm doing it right or wrong and I guess me and my teacher needs more opinion about this..

Here's a picture of my thumb..

Thanks guys..

Same deal here; I do the same thing. It works out great for the right hand, though, which can easily rest on the pickup.

I don't have problems with my right hand either since I do the moving anchor technique..

that's only a little more extreme than mine and i have no problem using the pad of my thumb on the back of the neck. rotate your thumb angle and curve you thumb so that your middle finger and thumb make a C. is that possible for you?

i have a hitch hikers thumb too, my left hand position involves putting the pad of your thumb against the back of your neck like your giving a fingerprint with it and move it around depending on what are of the fretboard your playing.

Actually that's my style when I was playing guitar few years ago.. I think that position will put a lot of stress in your carpals IMHO..

I feared that and tried working with other positions in the past but they never felt right. around the 1st fret i don't do it since its thinner around there but the closer my hand gets to my body, the more the bad position comes together.
